A Hausa Gentleman

Hausa Gentleman
11" x 8.5", 2013

watercolor, pencil, on paper
After some missed opportunities, cancellations, and ideas that didn't lead to anything, I can finally announce a place and date for the Top 100 2012. The paintings and drawings will be exhibited starting May 25 as part of the Fine Art Concert Series hosted by WDNA, Serious Jazz, a public radio station broadcasting from Miami, Florida. There will be a number of jazz paintings on view as well as all the others that you have seen pass the review this past year. This Hausa gentleman above will be tucked into a portfolio to leaf through. The portfolio consists of 50 watercolor/ink drawings; numbers 51 through 100 to be precise. Numbers 1 through 50 are oil paintings mounted on the walls. I'll give more details about this event in a few days. The Hausa gentleman drawing features at #64 to illustrate an anonymous Hausa praise song on a recording made in Lagos, Nigeria in the 1950s. Like so many in the list of 100 songs, this one is pulled from the Excavated Shellac blog. It is a test recording and no information is available about it.
